Styling and Design
The 2014 Cadillac SRX looks very similar to the previous year model as there are no significant changes on the outside. The overall look of the SRX follows familiar Cadillac design cues that are noticed on almost all Cadillac’s. The large headlights separated by the chrome grille provide the SRX with a friendly and more sophisticated looking front end. Cadillac kept the classic signature vertical tail lights on the SRX and they also added sharp lines to them to tighten up the rear end slightly. The exterior design feature that sets this crossover apart from others is how neatly the exhaust tips are made to be part of the rear bumper, which if I do say so myself, is a rather neat touch.
Features
The SRX is packed with more technology and gizmos than ever before, with a strong emphasis on safety features, as well as family oriented features. The centre stack of the SRX is the same setup found in most other Cadillac models where nearly everything is controlled by touch. The SRX also has Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system that allows connection to the car via USB, Bluetooth, SD card, and AUX input via a 3.5mm jack.
Drive and Handling
The SRX is powered by a 3.6L V6 that pushes 308 horses of power through a 6-speed gearbox to all 4 wheels generating just under 600Nm of torque. Due to the size and weight of the car, it is rather sluggish off the line, but gracefully picks up speed past the 80 km/h mark. Given the fact that the car is mainly aimed at families this should not be a big issue. Handling on the SRX is surprisingly good, this is thanks to the stiffer suspension. Cornering in the SRX was on point with limited body roll when compared to other crossovers. Fuel efficiency on the SRX is quite impressive really. The fuel tank holds 79 litres of fuel, where highway consumption hovers around 8.7L/100KM and consumption in the city averages around 9.8L/100KM.
Comfort and Practicality
Ride comfort in the SRX is slightly compromised by the stiff suspension that takes you by surprise when going over a speed bump. Road and wind noise is very minimal in the SRX thanks to the active noise cancelation system which utilizes microphones around the cabin that take in the ambient noise and reduce it by sending counter signals through the car’s speakers. Cadillac employs a cargo management system in the boot of the car where a set of rails help keep the cargo that is loaded in the car in a specific area and stop it from moving around during turns.
